"well... plants use carbon dioxide, water and nutrients from the ground as food.  they use light from the sun and chlorophyll to help them turn those things into fuel that the plant can use...  and the left overs or waste product is oxygen that we breath."

"oxygen is the waste product?  the left overs?"

"yeah... plant poop... (snigger)"

"so we breathe plant poop?"

"basically... yes..."

"well dad, since oxygen is a gas, we really breathe tree farts then!"
